I thought it might be a good practice to start a discussion amonst the editing community about what scenes they admire most about current or past films. I had “The Social Network” deleivered to my door yesterday thanks to Amazon’s outstanding prices on Blu-Rays. Before I take another look at the film I wanted to know what was your favorite scene in terms of editing? The club? The dorms? Thoughts?
I guess the tilt-shift Regatta scene is the showy, explicitly better looking sequence in terms of editing. Great music, also. But I also love the Facemash commotion, you can really feel the excitement when those servers crash down.
Overall, my favorite scene is the brilliant dialog-heavy one-shot opening scene. Not so much for editing, of course, although you may argue that the 99 takes and the whole blocking an timming is pretty much some sort of editing from Fincher himself.
For me, best scene is regatta. As David has said, great music also. Instead I didn’t like film so I can’t remember every scenes…

It’s all about Justin Timberlake’s first scene in that girl’s bedroom. Sharp cutting, Sharp performances, and it sums up his character perfectly.
I think the Regatta scene is cool, but I still think that these scenes where the conversations that take place while cutting back and forth between two lawsuits are awesome. They are very seamless and the dialogue is great. The editor did a great job of showing the right facial expressions to draw a reaction from audiences, which is why i think so many people liked it. I also really like the club scene.
I’ve been going to big-room nightclubs for years now and this movie was the first one I can remember that accurately portrayed how a real conversation sounds in a nightclub. Most movies you can tell that the dialog was recorded on set with the music added in later. Well done!
This film seemed to me far too long and very unsatisfying by the time it came to a finish. Yes, some of the dialogue is excellent and the acting is very good. Opening scene for me was especially enjoyable. At the end of the day it was simply too far from the truth to inform us much about its themes of greed and betrayed friendship though.
I agree with the nightclub scenes with the conversations. The realism of the way the scene and sound was directed and edited added a lot of realism to the movie that at least made it more interesting.
